Shakira faces new tax fraud charges over $7M in Spain!

The 46-year-old singer Shakira is involved in a tax fraud case in Spain. This was revealed in July. As per the reports of NBC News, she was formally charged on September 26. The latest winner of the Video Music Award is accused of not paying 7.1% of his income tax. This tax was on 6.7 million euros earned in 2018. Spanish authorities have accused Shakira of tax evasion. They say she used an offshore company to avoid paying taxes.

The 46-year-old woman recently moved to Miami after breaking up with 36-year-old Gerard Piqué. She reportedly got a notification from the police. Trial dates have not yet been set for Shakira’s most recent accusations. She will, however, go on trial in Barcelona on November 20 for the unrelated tax fraud charges.

The mother of two was charged by Spanish prosecutors in 2022. They claimed she owed the government $15 million in overdue taxes from 2012 to 2014.

Shakira’s agent said the singer “is fully confident in her innocence.” The agent also called the investigation “a total violation of her rights.” This was in response to Reuters’s inquiry about the artist in 2022.

The singer always followed the law. She listened to her financial advisers. This was stated by Shakira’s spokesperson to NBC News in July. The blonde beauty has not yet replied to the latest accusations made against her when this article was written.

The Grammy winner may spend up to eight years in jail if she is found guilty of the 2022 charges. In September 2022, Shakira’s attorney said that the trial followed “standard procedure.” One of the standard procedures is the judge’s order to start the trial.

Events are unfolding according to plan, and nothing has changed,” they stated. At the appropriate moment, Shakira’s legal team will provide its counterargument in a statement of defense.

Shakira reaffirmed her innocence in a November 2022 statement to Daily Mail. Shakira said in a statement last year that she has never had tax problems in any other country. Even though there is no strong evidence against her, she has faced “unacceptable methods” of criminal and media attacks. These efforts aim to damage her reputation and push her into a settlement agreement.

On September 26, Shakira shared a video of herself and Fuerza Regida performing “El Jefe” on Instagram. This was true even if she was facing fresh accusations. “This is so adorable that I had to participate!” She captioned a video of herself dancing with her fans, using the hashtags “@belladose #ElJefe.” The new song came out on September 20. This was one week after it was nominated for a Video Music Award on September 12.
